Dream come into Reality

Born in a family of ten children and being a first born, life never seemed to be simple,all I new was hardship, struggle with no ends. As a first born, all my other siblings looked upon me for guidance, I was their role model. I went through my primary level and performed very well. Due to lack of finance, I didn't proceed with my education since my parents could not afford. My dream of becoming a teacher seemed to be shattered but I didn't give up, I did odd jobs for one year, from my little saving, I enrolled as a day school-er the year that followed.

It was on a Saturday evening, the cloud had gathered up in the sky, it was a bit chilly, walking fast to avoid being rained on just in case it rained, a few meters from my home stead, I remembered had to buy vegetables for my grandmother from the market. I decided to rush to the market before it gets dark. Just before I could enter into the market stall, an overspeeding car came hit me from the back, I was lost in my own world. After regaining my conscious, I could hardly remember anything that occurred. I had lost my speech and sustained fracture on my leg.

With medication, support from family and friends my health started to improve and within a duration of three months I was able to write my name although couldn't walk. Due to financial strain I was allowed to leave the hospital but scheduled for therapy. My moments at home were the worst experience, having no wheelchair, this forced me to remain in bed through out, my mum did everything for me. I felt so lost and started cursing the day I was born, I never wanted to see anyone, bearing in mind no single day would I ever walk again.

My health deteriorated, was readmitted back to the hospital, from a close check by the doctor they realized I was depressed thus leading to slow healing, was scheduled for counseling class which really helped me recover. During that period of counseling my speech improved and I could now write and reads, with time everything started to flow, even though I couldn't walk on my own.

Its in the hospital, I realized my dream was not gone, it dawned to me that I can make it in life even if all seemed to be lost. It was a reborn, my faith in God increased and I started believing in the beauty of my dream. One of my friend quoted, "When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others" That was when healing started and immediately I said the serenity prayer by Reinhold;

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.

I was not the same person any longer, I had to fight for my dream by doing away with self pity/ sympathy and hatred. With lots of exercise and therapy was no longer in wheelchair, this was the best thing in my life, in one week, I had recuperated enough to go back home though with crutches.

Through the help of friends and well wishers I completed my education up to university, and am living my dream, I also offer counseling to everyone but most especially the disabled and less fortunate people. Even though am physically challenged, am now a different person, have made my dream come true.

You who is out there know Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass... It's about learning how to dance in the rain. Take the first step of faith, believe and then act because you too can make it. Don't let any obstacle along your way hinder you from achieving your goal. Always trust in Him, the creator of the universe.
